The Many Kinds of Ceiling Fans

Thanks to the amazing forces of capitalism and competition, there has been innovation in virtually every field out there, from automobiles to x-rays.  Much advancement has also been made in the design and function of ceiling fans.  Fifty years ago, ceiling fans were much more basic and not as effective as they are nowadays.  Technology has created some truly amazing ceiling fans, many of which will be explained in detail in this article.

Both indoor and outdoor ceiling fans exist, but the location is usually not a factor when it comes to classifying ceiling fans.  While your needs may be somewhat different if you are using a ceiling fan outdoors instead of indoors, there are not special features that distinguish indoor and outdoor ceiling fans.  That is, you could use the same ceiling fan both indoors or outdoors, but depending on the area you are installing it, the fan might not fit well in the space.

The simplest ceiling fans are just that; only fans.  They can be turned on and off, but other than that, there is nothing else.  Ceiling fans get interesting when you start adding features.  The first upgrade is the number of speed settings.  Advanced ceiling fans have multiple speed settings, and those that operate with the use of a dimmer switch technically have dozens of speeds, like a dimmed light can have very many light outputs.

Many ceiling fans nowadays have more functions than just the fan.  You can find many outdoor ceiling fans that have lights attached.  With these types of ceiling fans, the device can be used as both a fan and a light.  In the most advanced setups, the fan and light are both controlled by dimmer switches, enabling a vast multitude of total settings.

The final distinguishing aspect of ceiling fans is the appearance.  Simple designs are less expensive but also not as appealing, while there are many ceiling fans with elaborate and exotic designs.  If you can afford a fan such as this, it makes a great addition to your house, not only due to its useful function, but because of the decorative value as well.

As the features and style increase in quality, so does the price, so you do need to consider what you are looking for and what you need in a ceiling fan.  If you do not need certain features, there is no point in getting them, as that would just be a waste of money.
